TURKEY – Repression against Construction Workers Strike

Yesterday, 15th of September, a strike of the construction worker of a new airport in Istanbul have been violent terminated.

 

The strike was against bad conditions of work, like no payment, bad food and bad accommodation. According to social medias there even where deaths! The construction workers (there are about 35.000 workers at the airport) went on strike at the 14th of September. On the the next day the strike was violent terminated by police. They were using tear gas and water cannon. The whole area was surrounded and sealed off. More than 543 workers got detained. They use the pretext that they are illegal workers to detain them.

 

Revolutionary and democratic unions, groups and newspapers, like “Yeni Demokrasi” (new democracy) calls for actions of solidarity, which took place in Istanbul and Ankara.
